Name and position: Kathryn Tyrrell Freelance Hair and Make up Artist. Brief history of how you got to where you are now: After studying Beauty Therapy when I left school, I went on to work in a 5 star salon in my home town of Sheffield. I then discovered I had more of a interest in the Hair and Make up Artisty side of the trade. However, I was young and had an urge to travel; still wanting to earn some money and not live too far away from my family. I became airline cabin crew for a leading airline and moved to Manchester. I travelled the world and saw some amazing places; places I wouldn't of ever visited if it wasn't for my job. I had lots of fun and before I knew it nearly 7 years had past. I knew flying wasn't something I wanted to do forever so I went back to college one evening a week to do something I had always loved - Hair Media and Theartical Make up. It was hard trying to fit it in between all the flying but I did it. After I finished the course, I went out into the industry and did lots of work for free to gain experience and build my portfilio. I loved every mintue of it and so took the plunge and left my old job - I've never looked back! Favourite part of your job? The favourite part of my job is making people feel good. Biggest hurdle or challenge you have faced or still face? My biggest hurdle in life that I still face now is loosing my Dad at the age of 16 - I miss him very much. He loved Cyprus so I like to think he's there on the beach drinking a beer and watching over me. Your favourite piece in the new collection? My favourite piece of the SS13 collection is the SELENA dress - simple and classic, something I would wear over and over again. Your piece of make up? MAC face and body foundation - I couldnt live without it! I like to wear foundation but for my skin to still look like skin and this is exactly what this does; its a beautiful product. What are you reading right now? I'm getting married this year so at the moment my bed time reading is Brides magazines; collecting pictures, ideas and making mood boards. Most stylist celebrity – or who do you admire? At the moment I love Rosie Huntington-Whiteley, she wore a red suit for Burberry at London Fashion week and looked amazing - glowing skin, sexy and beautiful. Key investment piece for the Summer: A demin shirt from Topshop - I've had it for years but I get it back out every Summer, its great just to throw over a dress or vest top on a chilly evening! Secret to success? My serect to success is to surround yourself with people you love and that love you - if you can dream it, you can become it and never never give up! Your Moto / saying for life: What doesn't kill you makes you stronger, so true! and I love this one: The 3 Cs of life - choices, chances, changes. You must make a choice to take a chance or your life will never change. www.kathryntyrrell.co.uk
