For our competition with Lifetime UK, Hannah has reviewed some of her favourite Winter Fashion Must Haves. Here's her highlights of the season...
Words by Hannah Beaumont-Laurencia.
Luxury is definitely the hot topic for this winter, and looking effortless and cool whilst drenched in it. If you saw any of the shows or have visited the stores yet this season, you will know exactly what I am talking about. Fur, leather and velvet can be found everywhere from Topshop to Chloe ranging from simple sweats to velvet maxi dresses.
Here are the best trends (in my opinion) for AW13 along with some tips on how to wear them.
Fur From fake fur in high street stores like Topshop to the real thing in couture, you can’t underestimate the impact a good fluffy piece has in your wardrobe. The key to getting it right is the balance and also finding the ideal piece for you. A classic fur jacket is always a safe option – I’ve had my fur jacket since my teens and it’s never dated!
Alternatively if you want to update the trend, look for a jacket that features fur sections, for example a biker or baseball jacket with contrasting sections. One of my favourites from our new collection is the ‘Cadence Faux Fur & Organic Cotton Contrast Sleeve Zip Up Jacket’ which nails this trend perfectly. These jackets are timeless but also offer a less classical look and can be worn from day to night, rather than the traditional fur jacket which lends itself more to smarter evening occasions.
Leather My key investment piece for winter are leather trousers – I know this might sound scary to some but teamed with the right heels, anyone can look awesome in leather trousers. If you are slim, you can choose from skin tight or a slightly looser fit. For the curvier lady, go for the thinner, shiny, leather look leggings and layer with a loose top to balance the look.
Quilting Delicate or bold quilting is everywhere this season. Here at Beaumont Organic, we’ve teamed it with velvet (another key trend fabric!) to add some extra luxury. Check out the 'Jagoda Organic Cotton Lined Luxury Quilted Top' if you’re looking for a cute top with short sleeves. To stand out from the crowd with an instantly chic look, team the Jagoda top with leather trousers and your favourite winter boots. Alternatively if you’re looking for a classic, invest in a Lavenham jacket which is sure to never date.
Androgyny There is something comforting and cosy about the androgyny trend – whether it’s wearing your boyfriend’s shirt or simply one you bought for yourself but would fit him. It’s sexy and cute at the same time and teamed with the right jewellery, it can be dressed up or down to suite any occasion. For me, this is a look I use in the day time when I want to be comfortable yet still stylish.
I love to wear a loose unisex jumper like the 'Ellen Luxury 100% Wool V Neck Knitted Jumper', teamed with simple skinny jeans and some heeled boots or wedge trainers. It’s an easy look for a Friday when you’re ready for the weekend but still want to look smart in the office. Some of my other favourite key trends for the season that should not be missed are tartan, highlights of bright & bold colours, influences of punk and wrapping up in luxurious oversized outerwear: because snowball fights are gonna happen and you can’t wimp out because it’s cold. must-haves
