Beaumont Organic takes 60 Seconds With Deryane Tadd, Owner of The Dressing Room, St Albans - www.the-dressingroom.com1. Please give us a brief history of how you got to where you are now: I started my career in retail on the shop floor 22 years ago and worked my way up through to store management, area management and then operations and buying director for French Connection franchises. 10 years ago I decided to do it for myself, and the idea of The Dressing Room came about. I opened The Dressing Room 9 years ago in May 2005 and the business has gone from strength to strength since then. 2. What is your favourite part the job?
I love the variety that it provides. One day I will be doing stock figures and statistics, the next I could be anywhere buying and sourcing new collections and then I will be on the shopfloor selling and staff training. There is never a dull day as the owner of a retail business!
3. What is the biggest hurdle or challenge you have faced or feel you have still to face?
Balancing everything and making sure that everything runs smoothly, figures continue to rise and the team are trained and motivated. This will always be an ongoing challenge as I am a perfectionist and always want to achieve more and be better than my current best.
4.What is your favourite piece in the new collection ? Page 59 of the lookbook, Melissa coat. Really cute shape!
5. What is your favourite restaurant? Roka Charlotte Street or Mayfair - I love Japanese food.
6. What are you reading right now? The girl that saved the king of Sweden, by Jonas Jonasson.
7. Most stylist celebrity – or who do you admire?
I admire Victoria Beckham for the way she has built up her business into a widely respected fashion business despite many people expecting her to fail. She always looks fab too!
8. Key investment piece advice for the autumn?
A great jacket to pull your look together every time.
9. Secret to success?!.. Hard work, passion and innovation.
